Ben – Its hardly dire however they are building virtually a new airport next door. Should be opening next year sometime.
A work colleague just travelled on Etihad to Europe and said he would never travel with them at any price due to the absolutely dire state of the Abu Dhabi airport. That is a pretty good offer though.
I was there a few weeks ago and to call it ‘dire’ is hilarious – its much better than MEL and SYD airports. Yes the A380 gates are tight and crowded but there are excellent premium lounges and entrances, and because it is truly a 24 hour airport there arent really ‘peak’ periods.
What is their stop over policy like?
