Why Choose This Card

The Qantas Money Platinum Card offers an appealing mix of rewards, travel perks and introductory offers, making it a strong option for Qantas Frequent Flyers.

We like its earn rate of up to 1 Qantas Point per $1 on domestic spend, plus an extra Point per $1 on eligible Qantas purchases, helping you build your balance faster through everyday and travel-related spending.

The card also includes two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year and a 20% discount on selected Qantas domestic flights for you and up to eight companions, generous benefits that add tangible value for regular travellers. A reduced first year annual fee also enhances its appeal.

Additionally, you’ll enjoy a 0% p.a. interest rate for 12 months on balance transfers (with a 3% balance transfer fee). After the promotional period, the rate reverts to the standard cash advance rate. Note that interest applies to retail purchases while a balance transfer is active.

Finally, to be eligible for the full bonus offer, you must not have earned Qantas Points from a credit card in the last 24 months, making this a great choice for those new to Qantas Points earning or looking to restart their rewards journey.

Qantas-specific benefits of Qantas Money Platinum Credit Card

The following benefits are available outside of Qantas Points earned from spend:

  • Get up to 20% off selected domestic flights for you and up to 8 friends once per Anniversary Year when you book with your card via the booking portal on your Qantas Money account
  • Two single-entry Qantas Club Domestic or select Qantas-operated International Business Lounge Invitations each cardholder anniversary year
  • Complimentary domestic and international Travel Insurance

Discounted Companion Fares

Cardholders can take advantage of Discounted Companion Fares. You can take up to eight passengers at a discounted rate on selected Qantas domestic companion flights. You must make your booking with your Qantas Money Platinum Credit Card via the booking portal on your Qantas Money account.

As such, you will receive a 10% discount on red e-deal, 15% on Flexible Economy and 20% on Flexible Business fares.

Note that the discount is only applicable to the base fare, not the total fare including taxes. In addition, the terms state that:

Companion Fare Benefit discounts are not available on all fare classes and in some instances, there may be sale fares available to the general public that are cheaper than the fares offered under the Companion Fare Benefit.

Therefore, the deepest discount fares may not be matched by what you can earn from the companion fare discount either.

Discounted Companion Fares are only usable once a year and can’t be reinstated in case of a cancelled booking. Also, the Primary Card Member must be travelling on the booking.

Overall, this benefit is most useful for families booking in peak periods. Red e-Deal fares may not be available and you are unlikely to be able to cancel.

Qantas Lounge Invitations

Enjoy two Qantas Complimentary Lounge Invitations each year on your card anniversary. These Invitations can be used at domestic Qantas Club and Qantas-operated International Business Lounges. Note that the Los Angeles Lounge at Tom Bradley Terminal International Terminal is excluded.

Qantas Club Invitations are digital and can be viewed via your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

Summing up: the Qantas Money Platinum Credit Card

The Qantas Money Platinum Credit Card is a solid option for earning Qantas Points from your spending, with no points cap. You’ll need to factor in the restrictions mentioned above on government transactions though.

Make sure you understand all the terms and conditions for the Discounted Companion Fares to make the most of this benefit.

The extra 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar earned on international transactions helps when using your card on international spending. But while you’ll pick up an extra 0.5 Qantas Points per dollar vs domestic spending, you’ll pay an equivalent additional fee of 6c per point (0.5 points per dollar with the 3% additional fee for international transactions).

You should consider the Qantas Money Platinum Credit Card if you are looking for a direct Qantas-earning card. Especially if you do spend with Qantas frequently.
