Does anyone know how long the period of not having a Citi card is to be considered a new customer? I havent held one in over 2 years but just want to be safe before applying. Normally 12-18 months but i cant find this information anywhere.
A lot of negative experiences with this card, so thought I would add my experience.
Applied early December, one of the easier application processes, didn’t take long. Some ID and payment info to upload, but nothing difficult.
Approved in a few days, and got the card within a week, if my memory serves me correctly.
Points earned came into my account as I was spending, and this includes the bonus points, which were credited to my account this week when I hit the earn requirement.
I was rejected for an ANZ card a month or two before, since then I refinanced with slightly better terms to my mortgage, but was expecting to get knocked back for this Citi application.
Anyway, happy days.
If you have ever held a citi credit card, the online chat customer service confirmed not eligible for any sign up bonus regardless how long ago you closed the account.
The customer service said:
“This offer is not available when closing or transferring from another Citi branded credit card account or in conjunction with any other Citi branded credit card offer.”
we do not have a cooling period, I’m afraid.
So for as long as this stipulation is present on the offers, then you’ll be ineligible for the bonus points.
“If you have ever held a citi credit card, the online chat customer service confirmed not eligible for any sign up bonus regardless how long ago you closed the account.”
@Ruby that’s not correct.
I suspect the operator and yourself were on “crossed purposes” and misunderstood each other during your online chat which can easily happen with overseas call centres. The fact they mention a completely irrelevant “cooling period”, which has nothing to do with anything, shows they probably misunderstood what you were asking.
There is nothing in the terms and conditions that say because you have previously held a Citi branded card you can’t apply. I’ve had many of them and I will be applying for this card.
I’ve been approved for the card and no major issues so far but I have zero faith in their customer service. I completed the part for an additional card on the application and the card never arrived. Followed up with Citi and they said no record of that part being completed. They said complete the additional card holder form on the account which I did about 20 times and got an error message 20 times, even after escalating the issue with Citi. I just printed a form and sent it by snail mail and eventually got the card. The less I have to deal with them the better.
This is the worst bank I’ve ever dealt with in Australia. I received my credit card and it got locked 15 minutes after I activated it. Can’t use the credit card and can’t login into the account online. This likely happened because my transaction tripped a fraud alert (although I didn’t do anything unordinary).
Absolutely no communication from them via email. I’ve been calling them multiple times last few days but their customer service is atrocious:
– Call 1 – called them, spend 30 min – 1 hour explaining my situation. Customer service representative eventually told me that my account has a ‘black code’ and it was under monitoring. Told me that I’ll be contacted same day which didn’t happen.
– Call 2 – called again, explained my situation again. They told me that everything is working on their end and I should be able to login. Eventually deleted my account and told that in 30m I’ll be able to create it again. Which wasn’t the case.
– Call 3 – called again and yet again explained my situation. They advised me to call another number (which is their security team).
– Call 4 – called their security team. They hung up on me.
– Call 5 – called security team again (I am at this point). I’ve been on the line waiting for someone to pick up for 30 mins.
Honestly this looks like a scam. I am surprised that point hacks still advocates to use this bank. You need to do your due diligence guys and actually provide worthwhile recommendations.
I have been using this card for a month or so & have had no Reward Points credited. Even though I have spent > $8k, my Reward points balance is zero with the note that I have made no eligible transactions. According to Citi’s FAQs, points should be credited within 24hrs of the txn. The service centre tells me this is a known bug affecting customers. Although ‘high priority’ they could not give me an ETA for the fix. Presumably it has been a problem for at least a month. Anyone else have this experience?
Can you confirm the 110,000 bonus points will apply after the $8000 spend in 3 months and not split between the first and 2nd years? I know this is a pointhacks exclusive offer but I thought if you apply through Citi the bonus points are split.
Yes, the points are awarded in one lump sum through the Point Hacks offer. For split year offers, our wording will include ‘up to’ X points and there would also be clear references to first year and second year requirements.
Thank you, I’ve had my application in for nearly 2 weeks. Citi seem quite lost in their process. I keep getting texts and e-mails for documents I have already sent them. I’m concerned the cut off date of 2/9 will come and go while they mess about.
Any idea how long it takes NAB to make contact re autosweep once minimum spend has been hit?
The T&C says: “You will receive an email from us two months after you have met the spend criteria with information on how to provide your Velocity membership number to us to enrol in Points Autosweep. 220,000 Citi reward Points (equivalent to 110,000 Velocity Points) will be credited to your Citi Rewards Balance within 2 months of meeting the spend criteria and automatically transferred to Velocity on the date nominated by you, provided you have enrolled in Points Autosweep. Once transferred, it may take up to 1 month for the Velocity Points to appear in your Velocity account.”
Can confirm – bad experience with signing up. Card may have been lost in the mail but in the end we’ve waited 2+ weeks to get our card after approval – no confirmation yet from Citi if they’ll extend our 3 month period to reach minimum spend.
I don’t see anything in their T+C regarding government spend but the customer service over the phone says gov spend not counted towards minimum spend. Anyone able to confirm the truth? Sizeable portion of our minimum spend went to car regos.
I am going through the application process right now and I can resonate that this is the worst experience I have in terms of customer dealings. This call centre (probably from NAB) has the worst consultants bouncing back my call between different teams. Ridiculous.
Tried applying yesterday and can confirm that the process is the worst I experienced this century. The forms are clunky, and the document uploading does not work. I spent close to an hour yesterday trying to speak to the right person to get this resolved over TERRIBLE phone lines (try dictating 12 character application references when the other party can only hear every third word), for the same issue to happen again today.
My past history with Citi has been fantastic. Their current state is far from it – I am not at all sure I trust them with my credit card. Can only imagine the frustration of dealing with them with a lost/stolen card issue
Given that this is a NAB issued credit card, will I be eligible for the offer if I have an existing NAB credit card? The t&c’s say for ‘new Citi Premier customers’
Is Citi’s new customer terms based on not having an account in the past 12 months like most other banks? Or is it 18 months like NAB given their banking is through NAB?
It is highly unlikely. Nearly all providers have a 12 to 18month wait from when you last held their product before you get the big carrot to come back.
Hi
Just wondering if I can access this specific deal and just keep them as citi rewards points (220 000 points) or do they need to be specifically converted to velocity points to access the deal? I prefer this deal over the regular citi premier card but would rather citi rewards points and not velocity.
Thanks
The first thing this page says is “110,000 bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points, when you spend $8,000 on eligible purchases within 3 months from approval and opt in for Points Autosweep”. Eligibility will be determined by and points awarded by a computer – there won’t be any person with discretion to vary the offer for individuals.
Unfortunately I have just confirmed this is for new customers only, not for “New Citi Premier credit card customers only” as mentioned on this page.
I found the below in the terms and conditions:
“This offer is not available when closing or transferring from another Citi branded credit card account or in conjunction with any other Citi branded credit card offer.”

I would love to know this too!
Is Citi’s new customer terms based on not having an account in the past 12 months like most other banks? Or is it 18 months like NAB given their banking is through NAB?
I have the same question. What is the time period?
Hi there,
I have held this Citi credit card in the last 12 months (cancelled 2 months ago). Will I still be eligible for the bonus points?
Also, I hold a Citi debit card (transferred to NAB recently). Will I still be eligible for the bonus points?
Cheers
Hi,
If am an existing citi rewards credit card customer and apply for the Citi premier credit card, will I get the bonus 110000 velocity points?
Unfortunately I have just confirmed this is for new customers only, not for “New Citi Premier credit card customers only” as mentioned on this page.
I found the below in the terms and conditions:
“This offer is not available when closing or transferring from another Citi branded credit card account or in conjunction with any other Citi branded credit card offer.”
I don’t understand
Didn’t nab cancel citi cards held ???
